Back pain is one of the most common health problems. It can affect people at any age. Although most people starts to have back problem at about 45-55 years of age, there is a growing concern that more and more adolescents are having back pain. The reasons for adolescent back pain could be due to prolong sitting, incorrect posture when using phone and computer, heavy schoolbags and over participation in sports and without proper guidance. Adolescents back pain if not treated could lead to chronic back pain in their adult life.
Here are the simple tips to look after your back
Exercise regularly. Sedentary lifestyle with lots of sitting and lying down could make you lose muscle strength and bone mineral. This in turn can weaken your back. Take regular breaks when sitting down, get up from your chair to stretch and move around at least once every hour.
Choose good seating. Your office/ study chair should provide good back support — ideally, with an adjustable backrest, lumbar support, armrests, and wheels. Arrange your desk so you don’t have to do a lot of twisting to reach for frequently used items.
Lighten your load. Don’t overload briefcases, purses, or backpacks.
Drive with your back in mind. Sit back in your seat and, if necessary, use a rolled blanket or towels behind your lower back for lumbar support. Shift your weight occasionally. Also consider using a foam seat cushion to absorb some of the vibration. When driving long distances and when you are stuck in traffic congestions, take frequent breaks to stretch.
Sleep in alignment. If you can, sleep on your side with your knees bent and pulled slightly toward your chest. Your pillow should keep your head level with your spine — you don’t want your head propped up too high. Choose a mattress that’s firm enough to support your spine.
Maintain a healthy weight. The heavier you are, the greater the load your spine must carry. If you are thinking of losing weight ensure you lose weight coming from your abdominal fats and not muscle mass required to support your joints and back.
Last but not least, apply Pernaton Gel before and after exercises to relax your muscle and prevent injuries. This is especially important after prolong inactivity. Please remember that once your back is strained and injured, the back pain may strike back. Look after your back with Pernaton and avoid preventable injuries at all cost.
